The last of London’s galleried pubs, they don’t come more historic than the George Inn. Originally there would have been numerous coaching Inns along Borough High Street, with travellers stopping on their way to the City to water their horses and get a bed for the night. With London Bridge closed after curfew, a favourite way of spending the evening was to stand in the gallery and watch plays and shows put on in the courtyard below.

Originally horse-shoe shaped, but due to the expansion of London Bridge Station the galleries on the north side of the courtyard were sadly pulled down in 1836.
