One of London’s most famous secrets remains exactly that – a secret.

The Mousetrap, a murder mystery play by Agatha Christie, has been playing at St Martin’s Theatre continuously since 1952 (apart from a brief halt during the Covid pandemic).

The play has a twist ending which the audience are traditionally asked not to reveal after leaving the theatre.

It’s the longest running West End show ever – in fact it’s the longest run of any play in the world, reaching its 30,000 performances in March 2025

It’s based around a group of seven strangers who find themselves snowed in at a remote countryside guesthouse at the same time news spreads of a murder in London. When a police sergeant arrives, the guests discover – to their horror – that a killer is in their midst! One by one, the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts.

The best way to discover the secret is to go see the play yourself and then you’ll be one of the 10 million people have seen the play since 1952 (including me) and are sworn to secrecy!
